2. I plan to look at all of the various templates and try to streamline things where possible. I don't know that I'll get it done before I stamp for this first week, but definitely plan to have some revisions in place soon.
3. I'll consider this. I have to tally the numbers up anyway and had planned on doing something with the overall numbers at some point (termly averages, etc.) so I'll think on what some of the ways of reporting the data back that would be meaningful and/or fun could be.

That's a good question and it's once that has been discussed in the community a few times over the years. While there are likely some cases of people 'sheep' voting and it's easy to be concerned about people being influenced by others' votes, it's always difficult to say for sure if that is happening - it could be that the application is very clearly indicative of a specific house.
Ultimately, we've decided not to screen comments (except on applications of returning members as there have been times where those sortings have become tense or controversial) because of the social nature of sorting (we have a number of members who enjoy reading how other people have voted) and because of our common use of sigtags and the desire to display the work of our talented graphics makers within the community. Additionally, unscreened comments has been the practice for most sorting communities on LiveJournal over the years and it has generally worked well for us.
Since we do offer the ability to appeal if you feel like your sorting just wasn't quite right (which is a process that involves additional questions and screened voting by a smaller panel of community members representing all four houses), I think that we have a good avenue in those rare cases where the sorting might be skewed by 'sheep' voting in a way that goes against the applicant's personality as reflected by the answers to the questions.
Let me know if you have any further questions or suggestions.
